Texas Employers Add Jobs for 20th Straight Month

As announced in the February issue of the TLMR, the Labor Market and Career Information Department of the Texas Workforce Commission expected to have revised labor force sub-state estimates available for 2007-2009 today. Due to technical difficulties experienced this week in generating the monthly civilian labor force estimates, some of the sub-state estimates will be released either later today or on Monday for the February revised and March preliminary estimates as well as the 2007-2009 revised series. This only affects the civilian labor force estimates, which includes the unemployment rate.

In addition, the Statewide civilian labor force estimates for both the seasonally adjusted and not seasonally adjusted series were updated earlier this week for 2007-2009. The historical series for the Texas Statewide level has been updated on the TRACER website.

IMPORTANT PROCEDURAL CHANGES

Beginning with first quarter 2011 data, TWC will release Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) data using the NAICS 2012 revision. The purpose of this revision is to keep up with new and emerging technology industries. This revision is larger than the 2007 revision in the scope of the QCEW dataset, as 186 NAICS 2007 codes become obsolete and 76 new NAICS 2012 codes are established. Because there are no plans for historical reconstruction of the data series, a series break will occur, canceling the ability for a time series analysis for those selected industries.

Business Employment Dynamics

Business Employment Dynamics (BED) is a set of statistics generated from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program. These quarterly data series consist of gross job gains and gross job losses statistics from 1992 forward. These data help to provide a picture of the dynamic state of the labor market.
